M. Dexter Hagy, President and Chief Executive Officer
Dexter Hagy received his degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and, upon graduation, he joined Lowndes Products, Inc., a manufacturer of a broad line of nonwoven fabrics and converted products for health care and related industries from 1966 to 1973 in Greenville, South Carolina. He served first as Engineering Manager and then Plant Manager. In 1969, the business was sold to C. R. Bard, Inc. (NYSE), and Mr. Hagy became Vice President of Manufacturing. Two years later he was appointed President.
In 1973, Mr. Hagy left Bard to found Arkon Corporation, a manufacturer of synthetic nonwoven substrates used in the manufacture of disposable personal care and medical products of which he was the principal shareholder. Arkon established itself as a quality and technology leader in the nonwoven industry and experienced accelerated growth. He served as Chairman and President until 1984 when James River Corporation (NYSE) purchased Arkon to broaden its business in nonwoven and disposable softgoods.
Mr. Hagy became an officer of James River and served as a member of its Executive Council. As the senior executive of James River's nonwoven businesses, Mr. Hagy was in charge of nonwoven-related acquisitions and negotiations on a worldwide basis. During his association with James River, three nonwoven acquisitions were completed: the Cerex business of Monsanto, Crown Zellerbach Nonwoven Division, and a fifty percent ownership position in the Fiberweb Division of Holmens Bruk AB, headquartered in Norrkoping, Sweden.
In 1987, he resigned his position to form Vaxa Corporation, and through that company he founded Siteguard Security Holding Company to engage in the security alarm business. Siteguard established itself as a leading provider of security alarm equipment and services through the acquisition of a number of local alarm companies. This business was sold in 1993 to Tele-Media Security Company.
In 1996, Mr. Hagy formed Vaxa Capital Management, LLC to be the general partner for Vaxa Capital Partners, LP, a private equity fund formed to invest in and acquire middle market manufacturing and service companies. Mr. Hagy co-founded Soma Access Systems LLC with Stephen F. Ridley, MD in 2004. Soma Access Systems is a medical technology company focused on designing, developing, and commercializing unique, cost-effective solutions for problems arising during specific medical procedures. He now serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Soma Management, Inc., which manages Soma Access Systems LLC.
